Residential closet doors is simply another way of saying that they apply to closet doors used in residential homes, where the people who live there will be living there for quite some time, whether it is a newly built but never decorated or an older bought home. There are a couple of really popular types of residential closet doors that are used in homes all over the world – two very different popular types. These are glass panel closet doors and pre-hung closet doors, both of which have specific needs and considerations attached to them.
Glass Panel Closet Doors
Glass panel closet doors are those that have one or more panels of glass in them in some fashion. These panels are usually trimmed with wood or metal and are usually in geometric patterns like two vertical columns of rectangular glass panels, etc. Glass panel doors can often fall under the umbrella of other types of closet doors as well, such as bypass or pocket doors, and can be very beautiful additions to a closet or cubby of some type.
One thing to consider about glass panel closet doors is that they can be much more expensive than other solid wooden types of doors. This is because of the glass panels and usually the cost of installation as well. Another important consideration is that of the glass panels themselves. Most homeowners do not wish to let the contents of their closets be visible to guests and visitors or even to themselves, so many people buying glass panel closet doors opt for colored or textured glass to avoid this problem and keep the contents hidden. Textured, frosted and colored glass also, of course, contributes to the price tag, but most owners believe the price is very worth it.
Pre-Hung Closet Doors
Pre-hung closet doors are those that come with an attached door frame as well that fit into a hole in the wall meant for that purpose. These doors are usually best for the new home builders or homes in which door frames for closet doors have not ever been installed. They are also especially useful in homes that are being remodeled or completely redecorated right down to the door frames. The doors that usually come on pre-hung closet doors are generally just plain hinged doors or more decorative ones.
Some considerations for pre-hung closet doors may include of course if you have a need for a pre-hung door. If you are satisfied with the door frame you already have it may be fine for you to just buy a door for it rather than paying for the price of the door with a new door frame attached. Another consideration is whether you have the skills needed to install a pre-hung closet door – these doors are much harder to install and many people opt to have it professionally done in order to get it right and save themselves from bad installation and even personal injury in some cases.
